Hearth & Story Writing, Level 7-8 builds on the foundation laid in previous Hearth & Story writing courses, offering students a deeper dive into crafting powerful, structured essays and research papers. This course is designed to sharpen critical thinking, refine composition skills, and introduce new strategies that will prepare students for high school and beyond.
Key Features:
Advanced Five-Paragraph Essays: While students already have a grasp of basic essay writing, this course goes further by introducing a toolbox of techniques and tips to make essays stronger, more persuasive, and more engaging.
Counter-arguments & Rebuttals: Learn how to introduce and refute opposing viewpoints to build a more compelling argument in your essays.
Research Paper: Master the process of gathering and synthesizing information from credible sources to produce a well-organized, insightful research paper. This project also includes the use of visual aids such as graphs, tables, or timelines to present data clearly.
Time Capsule Essay Project: Back by popular demand, students will write a time capsule essay at the beginning of the course and revisit it at the end to see how much they’ve grown as writers. This reflective project is a favorite!
Standards Alignment: This course covers all 7th and 8th grade Common Core writing standards, ensuring students are prepared for future studies, whether in high school or dual credit programs.
